Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Are you tired of being asked, “you look tired, did you sleep?” Eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty may be your answer.

There are several different types of eyelid surgery that may address your concerns.

Upper Lid Blepharoplasty:

  • Removes excess skin/muscle from upper eyelids to reduce weight/heaviness of the eyelids
  • Is often done in office under local anesthesia
  • Can be combined with browlift or lower lid blepharoplasty to enhance outcome

Lower lid Blepharoplasty:

  • Is used to tighten lower lid fullness and reduce eyelid bags for a more refreshed look
  • Usually entails repositioning fat and removing excess skin of the lower eyelids
  • Typically performed in the OR with moderate sedation or general anesthesia

Ptosis Repair:

  • Elevates the eyelid margin to create a more alert appearance
  • Is often for functional concerns
  • Can be performed either in office or in OR

What can I expect before and after eyelid surgery?

Before:

  • You will have an extensive consultation with Drs. Pham or Goodrich who will review your medical history, exam and take medical grade photography.
  • You may be asked to see an Optometrist/Ophthalmologist as part of your pre-operative evaluation.
  • Avoid NSAIDs/blood thinning medications/supplements 2 weeks pre-operatively

After:

  • Avoid wearing contact lenses for 2 weeks afterwards
  • There is often a significant amount of swelling/bruising post-operatively. Icing frequently and using products such as Arnica will help lessen these symptoms.
  • Avoid wearing eye make up for 2-3 weeks after the procedure
  • Limit cardiovascular activity for 2 weeks and lifting weights for 4 weeks post operatively
